Roads Service - Autumn 2006 Progress Report and Programme of Works 2007/2008
The Deputy Lord Mayor (Councillor Patterson) welcomed to the meeting Mr. T. McCourt, Divisional Roads Manager, Eastern Division, together with Mr. R. Kerr, Section Engineer, South Belfast and Mr. A. McAllister, Section Engineer, North Belfast, who were in attendance to present the Department for Regional Development's Roads Service's Progress Report for Autumn, 2006 and its Programme of Works, 2007/2008.
Mr. McCourt highlighted the key aspects of the projects undertaken recently by the Service. He indicated that work was progressing satisfactorily on the upgrade of the M1/Westlink. He pointed out that plans were being formulated currently regarding the widening of the A55 Knock Dual Carriageway and this project was scheduled to commence at the end of the ongoing consultation process.
Regarding the upgrade of the M2 Motorway, Mr. McCourt indicated that work on the Hightown Road bridge was due to commence in the Summer, 2007. He indicated also that work on the widening of the railway bridge at Finaghy Road North was imminent.
Messrs. McCourt, Kerr and McAllister answered several questions which had been put to them by the Members and undertook to provide clarification in writing in relation to the specific issues which had been raised.
After discussion, the Committee noted the contents of the Roads Service's Progress Report for Autumn 2006 and the Programme of Works for the year 2007/2008.
