SPECIAL MEETING OF DEVELOPMENT (ARTS) SUB-COMMITTEE

Draft Integrated Cultural Strategy
The Sub-Committee considered the undernoted report.
The Sub-Committee agreed to adopt the recommendations, subject to the inclusion in the Strategy of the following:
- additional text on cultural activity as a human need/right as expressed by Article 27 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights;
- the widening of the issue of "Barriers of Participation", taking into account the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure's document on the matter;
- a change in the text to refer to the 12th July "celebrations";
- reference to the wide range of cultural activities being held within various community venues throughout the City;
- reference to a range of communities and groups within the cultural landscape section;
- a wider interpretation of visual arts;
- wider examples of architectural heritage; and
- a reference to the recovering and rediscovering of our cultural heritage.
